The R6 Procedure and the ‘Assessment procedure for the high temperature response of structures’, R5, are well known and continue to be developed by Nuclear Electric Ltd in the UK. This paper looks at the software that has been developed to help undertake the calculations required by these assessment procedures. R-CODE version 3.00 computerises creep crack growth and incorporates simplified creep-fatigue crack growth calculations. The program may also be used to perform assessments according to PD6539 and PD6493 or BS7910. Full allowance can be made for incubation and redistribution periods. Continuum damage may be evaluated in terms of life fraction or ductility exhaustion methods. The program covers all the Categories, Options and Failure Assessment Diagrams of R6, for defining stability under short-term loadings when used for low temperature assessments. 相似文献

Following Hurricane Katrina, the United States government provided billions of dollars in loans to repair the damage caused by the hurricane. However, the specifics surrounding demand for these loans and the process of application and approval for Small Business Administration (SBA) loans have yet to be fully examined. We analyse the demand of small businesses for such loans and delve into the factors which are associated with success in obtaining loan funds following disaster. Results indicate several factors are important in all of the stages of the loan process: the income of the business, whether the business had insurance or received money in an insurance claim and the gender of the business owner. 相似文献

Graduated driver licensing (GDL) programs are specialized licensing systems for beginner drivers adopted in all U.S. states, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. GDL programs reduce novice drivers’ exposure to high-risk driving situations while they gain driving experience. Several studies document the success of GDL programs overall in reducing young teen crash rates. However, little is known about which specific components of these programs (e.g., nighttime driving restrictions) and which calibrations of these components (e.g., 10 PM, 11 PM, 12 AM, or 1 AM), are associated with the largest crash reductions. The goal of this study was to identify the GDL component calibrations associated with the largest reductions in fatal crash involvements for 16–17-year-olds. Driver fatal crash involvements for all U.S. states from 1986 to 2007 were analyzed using Poisson regression models to estimate the association of various GDL component calibrations with 16- and 17-year-old driver fatal crash incidence, after adjusting for potential confounders. We found clear evidence that (a) a minimum learner permit holding period of 9–12 months and (b) a passenger restriction allowing only one teen passenger for 6 months or longer are the calibrations for the learner permit holding period and passenger restriction components associated with the largest reductions in 16–17-year-old driver fatal crash involvements. Additionally, the data suggest that (a) disallowing learner driving until age 16, (b) disallowing intermediate licensure until age 16½ to 17, and (c) a nighttime driving restriction starting at 10 PM or earlier are the calibrations for these components associated with the largest reductions in 16-year-old driver fatal crashes. The 1992 Framework Convention on Climate Change created the basic international architecture for addressing climate change. That treaty was negotiated at a time when the research literature examining emissions mitigation and the role of energy technology was relatively limited. In the two subsequent decades a great deal has been learned. The problem of stabilizing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has proved far more difficult than envisioned in 1992 and the role of technology appears even more important when emissions mitigation strategies are co-developed in the context of multiple competing ends. 相似文献

The structure of a JP-8 coflow flame is investigated by applying laser diagnostic techniques to three different fuel surrogates. The results are compared against theoretical predictions from numerical simulations; very good agreement is obtained for temperature and major species.Rayleigh and Raman scattering are used to measure temperature and major species mole fractions in the flame (oxygen, carbon dioxide, water, and fuel molecules). Quantitative laser diagnostic techniques are particularly challenging when applied to jet-fuel flames; the presence of aromatic molecules in the fuel mixtures and the formation of polyaromatic compounds inside the flame generate spectrally broad fluorescence signals that interfere with the measurement. A polarized/depolarized subtraction technique combined with a post-processing filter based on least-squares fitting is used to mitigate this undesired effect. The proposed technique tries to match the experimental signal against previously calculated spectra and has proved to be a very efficient filter at rejecting polyaromatic fluorescence.Numerical simulations play a fundamental role in this study. Computer predictions are used not only to compare experimental data, but as an active component of the data post-processing. A practical localization technology for underground drift networks—such as those excavated in the practice of underground mining—has yet to become commercially available. This paper focuses on the problem of mapping GPS‐deprived underground environments with the eventual goal of using these maps for navigation. Recent industry‐directed work in the creation of a landmark‐bounded occupancy grid mapping tool that combines odometry, scanning laser data, and sporadically placed passive RFID tags is described. Unlike other work, the suggested approach holds the philosophy that precise localization of the actual landmark locations is not necessary; rather, landmarks serve as a global means for partitioning the map. Background: Motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) are highly prevalent and can result in a complex interplay of physical injury, disability, and emotional distress. It has been suggested that the manner in which individuals cope with pain experienced after injury may determine how much recovery of function can be achieved. Only a limited number of studies have examined this process in the context of a rehabilitation program, and to date few studies have examined both functional and quality of life outcomes in MVA recovery in a tertiary level program as a function of coping style. Methods: A sample of 96 consecutive referrals to a tertiary-level multidisciplinary functional restoration program completed physical performance measures pre- and post-treatment, as well as a standardized self-report measure of quality of life (QOL) at the same time points and 6-month follow-up. Results: Findings suggested that improvements from pre- to post-treatment were evident on the 6-minute walk test, left and right grip strength, and most QOL measures. Increases in active coping during treatment were associated with pre- to post-treatment increases in QOL across most domains, and improvements in performance on the 6-minute walk test. Likewise, decreases in passive coping during the course of treatment were associated with improved performance on the 6-minute walk test, right-handed standing reach test, and most QOL indicators. Conclusion: Findings suggest that those who adopt an active approach (and avoid taking a passive approach) to rehabilitation following complex musculoskeletal injury benefit along both QOL and functional dimensions relative to those who do not.
